When You're Running on Empty: Finding Strength in Christ as a Christian Mom
Let’s be honest—some days you feel like a superhero, and other days you feel like your superpower is… keeping everyone alive and not crying in the laundry room. (Okay, maybe just crying quietly.)
Motherhood is beautiful, but it’s also exhausting. Between making meals, wiping noses, teaching lessons, folding endless mountains of laundry (seriously, where does it all come from?), and trying to have a quiet time with God—sometimes it feels like there’s just not enough of you to go around.
If you’ve ever whispered, “Lord, I’m tired,” you’re not alone. And the good news? God isn’t asking you to do this mom-life on your own strength.
You’re Not a Machine—You’re a Masterpiece
God never meant for you to run on empty. In fact, He lovingly reminds us in Isaiah 40:29–31 (NKJV):
“He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength...
But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.”
Yes, girl. You are the one He’s talking about. He gives you strength. You don’t have to manufacture it with another cup of coffee or a Pinterest-perfect routine.
Jesus Knows You’re Tired
Even Jesus, fully God and fully man, took time to rest. He withdrew from the crowds to pray (Luke 5:16), reminding us that rest is not a luxury—it’s a necessity.
When you feel like you have nothing left to give, remember what Jesus said in Matthew 11:28–30 (NKJV):
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.
Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls.
For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”
Take Him up on that offer. Rest isn’t weakness—it’s wisdom.
3 Fun Ways to Fill Up When You’re Running Low
Here are some practical, joy-filled ways to refuel—spiritually and emotionally:
1. Praise Party (With or Without the Kids)
Crank up some worship music while doing the dishes or driving. Sing loud, dance it out, and let the joy of the Lord be your strength (Nehemiah 8:10).
2. Power Naps & Prayer Nooks
Even 10 minutes of quiet with Jesus can shift your whole day. Keep a devotional in the bathroom if you have to (because let’s be real, it might be the only place you get alone time).
3. Phone a Friend Who Prays
Sometimes you just need someone to remind you that you’re not crazy and you will survive toddlerhood. A short prayer with a friend can refresh your soul.
You’re Not Alone, Mama
If no one’s told you today—you’re doing an incredible job. God sees every late-night feeding, every school project, every tear you’ve cried behind closed doors. He’s with you. He’s for you. And He’s your strength when you’ve run out of your own.
So next time you feel empty, don’t just try to push through. Pull over. Breathe. Pray. And let the Lord fill your cup again.
You’re not just a mom—you’re a daughter of the King. And He’s got you.
